πŸ”§Teams Troubleshooting: Sign-In and Common Issues

Fixes for common Microsoft Teams issues including sign-in loops, missing chats, and app crashes.

Microsoft Teams is the hub for communication and collaboration, so when it's not working, it can really disrupt your day. Here are fixes for the most common Teams issues.

I Can't Sign In to Teams

Try These Steps in Order:

  1. Close Teams completely β€” right-click the Teams icon in your system tray (bottom-right) and select Quit. Then reopen it.

  2. Sign out and back in:

    • Open Teams and click your profile picture in the top-right.

    • Click Sign out.

    • Close Teams, reopen it, and sign in with your email and password.

  3. Clear the Teams cache:

    • Close Teams completely.

    • Press Windows Key + R, type the following path, and press Enter:

      %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
    • Delete the contents of the Cache, GPUCache, and Local Storage folders.

    • Reopen Teams and sign in.

  4. Use the web version as a fallback:

Teams Keeps Asking Me to Sign In Every Time I Open It

This is usually caused by a cached credential issue:

  1. Open Settings on your computer β†’ Accounts β†’ Access work or school.

  2. Verify your work account is listed. If it shows an error, click Disconnect and then reconnect it.

  3. Clear the Teams cache (see steps above).

  4. Restart your computer and open Teams again.

If the issue persists, your device's trust with Microsoft 365 may need to be re-established β€” contact eTop for help.

My Chat Messages Are Missing

Teams chats are stored in the cloud, so missing messages usually aren't lost forever.

  • Search for the conversation: Use the search bar at the top of Teams to search for the person's name or keywords from the conversation.

  • Check your chat filters: Make sure you haven't accidentally filtered to "Unread" only. Click the filter icon in the chat list and set it to All.

  • Check if you're in the right account: If you have multiple Microsoft 365 accounts (personal + work), make sure you're signed into the correct one.

  • Wait a few minutes: Sometimes there's a sync delay, especially after a Teams update. Close and reopen Teams.

Teams Is Running Slowly

  • Close unused apps β€” Teams uses a significant amount of memory, especially during video calls.

  • Disable GPU hardware acceleration: Go to Teams Settings β†’ General β†’ Turn on "Disable GPU hardware acceleration". Restart Teams.

  • Check your internet connection β€” Run a speed test. Teams video calls need at least 1.5 Mbps upload and download.

  • Update Teams β€” Click your profile picture β†’ Check for updates.

I Can't Access a Team or Channel

  • You may need to be added by the Team owner (usually your manager or project lead).

  • Ask the Team owner to add you, or contact eTop and we can assist.

  • If you previously had access but can no longer see it, the Team may have been archived or deleted β€” contact eTop to check.

Audio or Video Not Working in Meetings

  1. Before or during a meeting, click the three dots (...) β†’ Settings β†’ Device settings.

  2. Make sure the correct Speaker, Microphone, and Camera are selected.

  3. Click "Make a test call" from Settings β†’ Devices to verify audio is working.

  4. Make sure no other application (like Zoom) is using your microphone or camera.

  5. Check your physical mute button β€” many headsets and laptops have hardware mute switches.
